Obama So Far Not So Good
I Like most black Americans found myself overjoyed and amazed by the reality that we have elected a black man to be the forty-forth president of The United States. Now that a little more than a month has passed since election day, I'm starting to get the sneaky sense that we aren't really headed for change, only more of the same. First came news that Rahm Emanuel the pro-war, openly Zionist Israel supporter and water carrier for the corporate wing of the Democratic National Committee would be Obama's chief of staff. That irritated me, but I was willing to cut the president elect a little slack on his choice because Emanuel is a tough Washington insider who is capable of doing battle with the wing nuts on the right. Then came the news that Robert Gates would remain in his role as Secretary of Defense. Bob Gates though less hawkish than some, and more affable than Donald Rumsfeld is still a right-wing Ronald Reagan style thug with ties to the Iran-Contra scandal. Do I even need to remind you that he is a hold over from the George W. Bush administration? How is this change. The slow simmer that I had been stewing in for the past few weeks boiled over and turned into a four alarm blaze when word came that Obama would tap Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State. Bill Richardson was available, as was Al Gore, and my personal favorite Chuck Hagel, but Hillary gets the gig? This serves as nothing more than a gift to the middle of the road, mealy mouth, centrist democrats who have destroyed this party. Hillary Clinton is a war mongering republican in a democrat pants suit. Where is this progressive, ground breaking president that I voted for? On election night, Barrack Obama said that "change has come to America". It's time to put up or shut up.

Sunday Night
Jesus saved me
again today,
he took all
of my troubles
away,
Actually he just
made them a little
easier to deal with.
Taught me how to
feel joy again,
made me a little
more comfortable
in my own skin.
And comfortable
is better than how
I used to feel,
at least it's
something real.
I used to
numb
myself
everyday,
but the pain
never went away.
A slave
to the world,
I thought I'd
never be free,
and then I met
Jesus and he
saved me.
He saved me.

Poetic82: Beautiful. Jesus saved me too. We all come here to experience something in life, many times pain is tied to it. Not to teach us pain, but to teach us love. It is pain that guides and directs us and motivates us and molds us. I believe that we are like the butterfly who starts as a caterpillar, who must experience the pain of change but in the end experiences lifes utlimate beauty. Oh to become a butterfly. That is what Jesus shows us, what life is like as a butterfly. Wonderful read.

AWAKE
Now awake
to realize that
you've always
been asleep.
Bought all
that they sold
even at the
price of your
soul.
The truth is
a riddle wrapped
in a puzzle that
you can't solve.
Trapped in a box
that you would'nt
open if you could.
So you run away,
that's what you do
best.
But can't get away
from yourself now
that you're awake.

FALSE FRONT
There is a
distance between
the brain
and mind.
Psyche isn't
what you are
but who you
think you are.
Ego controls
more than
you know
it does.
Logic is
the first
casualty
of pride.
Love is just
a tool
to use
as you need.
Pain is relative
especially when
you depend
on it.
Now is
all that matters
especially today,
but it's only a
product of who
you think
you are.
There's a distance
between the brain
and the mind.

Blogging the Convention from my Couch
Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would live to see the day when a black man would become the official presidential nominee of one of the two major political parties. And yet that's what happened today when during the "roll call" of states at the convention, the final delegate votes were cast by Hillary Clinton of all people.Barrack Obama is the nominee for the Democratic Party! I mean everyone already knows this, but it just feels so strange saying it. In the words of the late great black historian John Henrik Clarke, it's been "a long and mighty walk" for black people in this country. To think that we are only two hundred and forty three years removed from slavery. And only forty two years from Jim Crow? Wow what a day.
Those sentiments out of the way, back to my coverage of the convention. Verizon Fios sucks and does not carry my go to cable newser M.S.N.B.C, so I am forced to be resourceful. I can't stand CNN and obviously Fox News isn't a choice. So I decide to check out the network coverage. It's about what I expected, milk toast and without nuance or perspective. So I go with the best of the worst which is NBC. There at least you get some of the MSNBC talent like Olberman, Mathews and my personal favorite Chuck Todd. You can't call yourself a political junkie if you haven't checked out Chuck Todd yet, he's awesome. Not a flame throwing liberal like I would hope, but come on people we aren't going to get Howard Zinn or Noahm Chomsky or network television. I'll have more to write after Billy Boy's fifteen minutes tonight.
PS: Fios still sucks and Hillary
