Blogging the Convention from my Couch

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would live to see the day when a black man would become the official presidential nominee of one of the two major political parties. And yet that's what happened today when during the "roll call" of states at the convention, the final delegate votes were cast by Hillary Clinton of all people.Barrack Obama is the nominee for the Democratic Party! I mean everyone already knows this, but it just feels so strange saying it. In the words of the late great black historian John Henrik Clarke, it's been "a long and mighty walk" for black people in this country. To think that we are only two hundred and forty three years removed from slavery. And only forty two years from Jim Crow? Wow what a day.
Those sentiments out of the way, back to my coverage of the convention. Verizon Fios sucks and does not carry my go to cable newser M.S.N.B.C, so I am forced to be resourceful. I can't stand CNN and obviously Fox News isn't a choice. So I decide to check out the network coverage. It's about what I expected, milk toast and without nuance or perspective. So I go with the best of the worst which is NBC. There at least you get some of the MSNBC talent like Olberman, Mathews and my personal favorite Chuck Todd. You can't call yourself a political junkie if you haven't checked out Chuck Todd yet, he's awesome. Not a flame throwing liberal like I would hope, but come on people we aren't going to get Howard Zinn or Noahm Chomsky or network television. I'll have more to write after Billy Boy's fifteen minutes tonight.
PS: Fios still sucks and Hillary
